I lined up some of my IP cameras and took snapshots from the same position and distance...
All pictures are taken with the original lens, neutral Brightness and Contrast settings,
50Hz , no zoom applied. Click on the pictures to see them in full size.
The older one, the Foscam FI8918W, good picture but the classic colour aberration due to IR filter:
The Dericam M801W, one of the first camera to include IR-cut.
The Tenvis IPRobot3, HD and IR-cut:
The CyberNova WIP-604MW, HD and IR-cut as well, more colour, but more compression too...

It's indeed the very same camera and their firmware is identical, just that they add their logo in it. I suppose the firmware source is the same (May Gion...).
It's an excellent device that just needs a few things to be perfect, like the position presets.

I have asked the dericam,they said the firt version firmware will be same as others,but new firmware will be fixed and add more new features.

Hi Bubbah, based on your own testing, would you recommend the IPRobot3 over the WIP604MW/H502W? I'm trying to decide between these three to monitor my saltwater tank while I'm away, and was leaning towards the IPRobot3 because of the digital zoom, but I keep reading horror stories about them...
Hi Nick, neither are perfect, but so far only the H502W has evolved in the last 6 months. They're about to make it Onvif compatible just now. I'm however missing some preset positions on this model.
However, compared to IPRobot3, which had no significant updates in months, and keeps doing weird things (crashing, loosing config...), the H502W is far more pleasant to use!
I trust Tenvis wants to improve IPRobot3 but, until they do, it's just not good enough.
I'm relatively new to IP cameras and I've found your info *extremely* helpful and enlightening. I've been surprised by how fun and useful they can be... Any updates on the Tenvis IProbot3? On paper, that one looks to be the one to suit my needs/wants. You still prefer the WIP604MW/H502W? I'm not sure what Onvif is or how to get my hands on the Synology software you reference... but I'm still a neophyte... I'll figure it out eventually. Thanks!

Tenvis needs to imporve a lot their IPRobot before I dare recommending it. I know they're about to release a new firmware "soon"...
The WIP604MW/H502W have had several updates within the last 6 months and many improvements. It only lacks the position presets badly and I don't get why they don't have that implemented yet.
Onvif is a standard that simplifies the compatibility between IP cameras and viewer software: Instead of having to maintain hundred of brands and models, the software just needs to support the Onvif protocol to be able to control any Onvif camera. It appeared on much dearer cameras but spreading to low cost models now!
Synology NAS come with a Surveillance application that can control Onvif cameras.

Thanks for the info! Much appreciated. =] I get it... an open standard for the IP cams. That makes sense. I'm now looking into the Synology NAS. That would be useful to me for a number of reasons and if it comes with a useful app to control my growing collection of IP cams that's bonus. Is this app better/easier than going with something like BlueIris or iSpy? Or do you use it simply because you got it with the NAS? Those seem the best among the software that I've demo'ed so far...
The Synology NAS is the best IT purchase I made in years. I started with the DS109 and now replaced by the newer/faster and 2-HDD DS213+. I makes all your (multimedia) data central and available 24/7 for all your networked devices, including DLNA players, using only 4W. What makes them stand out is the software: frequent updates with new features. I didn't buy it primarily for the IP camera management but the "Surveillance Station" app is actually excellent and allows a unique secured HTTPS access to all your cameras. However, there's a catch! You start with 1 camera licence and you have to buy licences for more (1 unit license=~50€, 4 unit pack=~150€, found the cheapest on ebay). So that must be taken into account in your budget.

What do you think about Dericam M801W? It's really different from H502W? And again...Tenvis IPRobot3 can record video on sd card and recycle space when it's full?
Currently H502W is the best choice, IPRobot3 comes second but still too many problems to fix. M801W is old and low res.

I purchased 2 Asanted Voyager smartbot 1.3mp cameras for ~$80 a piece. They do not have ir cut and are only wireless g. Yes the colors are washed out due to no ir cut but the images are nice and crisp.
My question to you is what do you think of the lasting quality of the dericam h502w? Obviously the asante cams have less image features but they do come from a reputable company with wonderful customer service (the tech actually downloaded my surveillance software so he could help me). Would you send the as ante cams back and replace them with the Eric am 502w which cost $85 from a US seller? They arent actually the dericam brand but obviously the same camera? Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Remember both cams cost roughly the same...

Hi Jaser, from what I can find on the web about this camera, it seems to be a good product for the price you paid. The fact that it's not a PTZ is balanced by the wide angle lens and the full HD capability. Their strong selling point seems to be the software provided with its person/object detection, something you'd have to buy separately with the H502W. I like the H502W of course but would not be unhappy with the Voyager I guess.
Bubbah, thanks for the quick reply. Does the H502w have a wide viewing lense and provide a true HD image? Also, I want to know what you think about the lasting quality of the H502w. I use a 3rd party surveillance program so the bundled software with the voyager is not a selling point. Knowing this does your recommendation change? I like the voyager because of its quality and customer service. I do not like the fact that its only wireless g and no ir cut. If the H502w has a wide viewing lens, full HD images, ir cut, wireless n, and lasting quality, wouldn't I be better off going with it instead of the voyager?
BTW. I use a program called Contacam. Very simple, yet full of powerful options.

My device is only 6 months old so it's difficult to judge the durability at this stage, I think it's in the average. It's not a very wide angle lens, but it can be replaced with other lens found on eBay. The software is missing some features like preset positions, but it gets improved on a regular basis. Best thing to do is to get one to see for yourself, then after, decide to sell the one(s) you like less.

I have a doubt. Is Tenvis IPRobot3 using Maygion ? Does the other ip cam (H502W) also save in v264 format ?
Tenvis IPR3 is unrelated to H502W which developped by Maygion and uses the AVI format. I'd say that's one of the biggest problem of the Tenvis camera. With the latest firmware they introduce a kind of solution though: you can upload videos to DropBox which is then stored in a standard video format. Still, that's a poor workaround for me.
