It brings further improvements to the ONVIF compatibility with special attention to Synology DSM 4.2.
Important Notice:
Before performing any firmware update, read this post to learn about potential problems that can result from this operation as well as how to backup the board.dat file.
This update, published directly on MayGion web site, allowed me to use the camera with Surveillance Station 6 for the first time. There's no Pan and Tilt control yet, but hopefully this will come later.
The mkbin tool is included in the package:
This tool was in fact made available by Maygion in 2010 and allows to unpack the bin file, and to pack customized ones.
Just drag and drop a bin file to the mkbin app to unpack. These extracted files are those that typically can be uploaded via FTP to their corresponding www or app folders.
I take this opportunity to praise the great investigation work done by macmpi on the hardware.fr forum!
If you don't read French, please use a page translator like the one included with Chrome and read the second post on that thread to know more about the customization potential of this camera. It's worth reading, ...and it's only the tip of the iceberg...!

Hi Bubbah, As luck would have it I just received my CyberNova CN-WIP604MW 720p IPcam today in the mail! I've been very pleased playing around with it. It came with 5.39 firmware installed. Is this 5.53 MayGion firware safe to load directly via the web interface on my CyberNova? Since you update the app.bin and www.bin separately, will it reboot between the updates automatically or can I safely do the app then the www THEN reboot? WIll it save settings or is it safe to load a .cfg file made from a previous firmware version after updating? I know sometimes that's no bueno for routers. Lots of questions, I just don't wanna risk bricking my new IP cam on the first day!! ;) Thanks in advance!
Hi Timothy, you're in luck with that camera, there seems to be no possible way to brick and I've tried hard! Just update preferably from a wired connection rather than Wi-Fi. However when a firmware update goes bad/interrupted, at least you will always be able to access the camera via FTP to re-upload the files. Make your own FTP backup before proceeding with an upgrade.
It should retain your settings, but you could also make a backup (device settings section of the UI)of it just in case. If it ever gets reset, it might revert using port 81 instead of 80, making you think it is bricked.
Make yourself familiar with recovery situationsdocumented here.
Bubbah, I've made a backup of the settings but I'll make sure to backup FTP as well before proceeding. I'm pretty familiar with flashing routers, so I'm with you on the "don't update firmware over Wi-Fi" thing. I'll probably do the update tonite. I'll let you know my results. Thanks! =]
Seems like the firmware upgrade went ok. Super easy compared to other devices that I've flashed the firmware on. At first it seemed like the camera was being a bit erratic, losing the wifi connection a few times, etc. Then I figured out that my router died... strange timing! ...so I'll test it out more thoroughly and post an update.
I can confirm that ONVIF_GENERIC with FW 5.53 works fine Synology DS212J

Upgrading my CyberNova CN-WIP604MW to the 5.53 MayGion was painless and the cam has been working fine since. I noticed that CyberNova just released a new firmware update but they do not include version numbers in the description, so I don't know if it's just the 5.53 from MayGion repackaged or if it's something different. Interestingly, on their download page, they include a warning not to update the firmware to often as it will damage the camera. Not really sure what that's about as I update the firmware on lots of devices regularly and sure, if you update the WRONG firmware or lose power in the middle of an update perhaps you can damage stuff, but IS there some danger that I'm not comprehending? Thanks!
The Cybernova release is exactly the 5.53. Their recommendations are generic to all IPC but this particular model is very difficult to brick, and I've tried hard!

Thanks Rav, looks great. I'll try that and will post your instructions here, with due credits of course!
Hello Bubbah, Appreciate your posts here. I've just update my firmware and now receive a message that I need to authorize my license. Can you tell me what this is about? It seems to be looking for a file to upload?
Also, if I may trouble you... Cam seems to "reboot" about every 1 min 5 seconds. This was happening before the firmware upgrade, and I thought the upgrade would correct this, but... no. Any thoughts on what this might be? Thank you again.
Hi Otis,
this is a known problem, there's quite a discussion on that on that French forum (some content in English though). I'm also affected by the "invalid license" problem for a while now (long before this firmware version). Why it happens is still not clear, but it should only affect the P2P feature (external access to the camera without having to define the port forwarding manually). In my case, it does reboot but every 10 minutes and it only take 15~20" to be online again.
Only the developper (Maygion.com) is able to provide a valid Authorisation file to upload to the IPC and make it "valid" again.
I'll post a warning on this article and any other related to firmware update.
Many thanks for your assistance!
